Summary
Emiliana and Gianpaolo, a Venezuelan couple with Italian roots, married on 11 September 2026 at Commenda di San Calogero in Augusta, Sicily. Vogue España published their wedding on 4 November, with our photos. Emotion & Motion handled photo and film, and part of the wedding was shot on 35 mm film.
For couples planning a wedding in Sicily or another destination wedding in Italy and looking for a photographer and videographer from Spain. More of our weddings in Italy: Puglia, Venice and Florence.
They both have family in Sicily, and three of Gianpaolo's four grandparents were born in Italy. Marrying there was a way of celebrating their roots. They chose Commenda di San Calogero, a 14th-century estate outside Augusta, and a date with its own meaning: 11 September is the feast of Our Lady of Coromoto, patron saint of Venezuela.
The idea behind the wedding was circular love, with no beginning and no end. The ceremony took place on a circle of grass in the middle of a wheat field, with the guests around the couple and the sea behind them. The circle carried on in the dance floor, in the backdrop of the DJ booth and in the stationery, designed by Emiliana herself.
Emiliana got ready in a room painted with green leaves, in a strapless Danielle Frankel gown with a balloon skirt and vintage earrings from her grandmother. Her bridesmaids were waiting outside in a palette taken from the land itself: chocolate, rust, terracotta, burgundy and olive green. Gianpaolo wore a brown suit.
Guests reached the ceremony along a path cut through the wheat, with white parasols against the sun and a string quartet playing in the garden. Then came dinner: one long table under ancient olive trees, with everyone sitting together. That was what the couple told Vogue was the most special part of the day. The party ended up very Venezuelan, with the hora loca at 2:30.
There was one more chapter the next day. Emiliana put the dress back on and we spent the day with them in Ortigia, through its stone alleys, up to the steps of Syracuse Cathedral.
The Commenda is a protected estate: suppliers dress in black, nothing is nailed into the gardens and nobody walks on the wheat. We worked with that same care, and used the drone to show from above what you cannot see from the ground: the whole circle.
